JUBILEE TRAIL RIDE

14th March 2010

The first 'proper' ride of the Wessex season and the first of the 'Dorset' rides.

The venue is Whitcombe, on the A352, south of Dorchester. Parking is in a field with room for hundreds of vehicles – easy if you are not very confident at manoeuvring your trailer or if you have a lorry. Access is straight off the road with an easy turn in.

The route is mainly bridleways and tracks, none of them stoney, and there is lots of really good going – so plenty of opportunity for cantering! The route is undulating with a couple of short uphill pulls. There is a ford on the top loop which you may or may not have to do, depending on what distance you choose to do. As is common with the ‘Dorset’ rides the sea views (providing there is no sea mist!!) are spectacular.
